The Talk:
Colin will start by giving a summary of the history of Phuket from the earliest periods of human inhabitation until today. He will focus on the latter especially the closely entwined relationship between Penang, Kedah and Phuket. As a Scot he will also examine the profound changes that the strong Scottish influence from Penang brought to Phuket, Siam and indeed the whole region.
About the Speaker
Colin Mackay is the author of “A History of Phuket and the Surrounding Region,” the most comprehensive book written in the history of Phuket which also looks at Penang from the perspective of Phuket.
Colin is Scottish though raised in East Africa. He has an MA in History from Edinburgh University. He has written several history books and has previously worked as a journalist, historic shipwreck salvager, fund managerand property developer. He has been living in Phuket with his Thai wife and children for almost 20 years.
