Penang Heritage Trust cordially invites its members to attend the second free film screening happening on the evening of 30th July 2016 (Saturday). This free film screening event is exclusive for members of the Trust, as part of our ongoing 30th year celebrations. This free film screening will also include a short introduction by Himanshu Bhatt, council member of PHT and cast of Road to Dawn, at 7.45pm. Himanshu will relate his experience and journey in the production of this film.
Road to Dawn, a film shot entirely in Penang, tells the story of Dr Sun Yat Sen (father of modern day China) (played by Winston Chao) and his time in exile in Penang. Following his failed attempt to stage a revolution in 1910, Dr Sun was forced to go into exile as there was a hefty price placed on his head. Turned away from Japan, he landed in Penang and started his campaign here in the Nanyang region.
In Penang, he was aided by prominent businessmen and friends, including one Xu Bo Heng. The story also centres on Dr Sun’s romance with a local Nyonya Xu Dan Rong (played by Angelica Lee), the beautiful, young and enthusiastic daughter of businessman Xu. At the same time, there was also a threat to Dr Sun’s life as a Qing secret agent was plotting to assassinate Dr Sun..
This film was released in 2007 to international audience and gained several awards including Best Actor for Winston Chao in the 10th China Movie Channel Media Awards and the 2007 Guangzhou University Students Film Festival. The movie was also screened in several film festivals including the Cannes Film Festival, the 2008 Kuala Lumpur Film Festival and the Singapore International Film Festival.
This free film screening is only for members of the Trust, and reservations can be made with firstname.lastname@example.org or via telephone to +604 264 2631. Seats are limited.
