Penang Story Lectures 2010-presentstory

Working with Think City, Penang Heritage Trust organised the following lectures, as part of the Penang Story Lectures, from 2010 to 2012 to revisit the various historical position of Penang in the regional and global context:

18. Penang Story Lecture: Remembering Malayans on the Death Railway and the INA

This history colloquium is held on 19 October, 2013, to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the completion of the Burma-Thailand Railway and the formation of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind (Free India) by NetajiSubhas Chandra Bose in 21 October 1943.

 

19. Penang Story Lecture: Dr Albert Stanley McKern (1885-1945)– a Penang Doctor in Myth and Reality

An announcement in 2008 that Sydney, Yale and Edinburgh Universities had received a multi-million dollar bequest from the estate of Dr A.S. McKern drew public attention to this Australian physician who spent the inter-war years in practice in Penang.

Talk on Saturday, 11 October 2014. Penang Botanic Garden is 130 years old, making it the oldest public botanic garden in Malaysia.
